It is with a very sad heart that The Summer Camp is announcing that all 2020 summer sessions have been canceled.

For the last few months, The Summer Camp and the Board of Directors have been working hard to find a safe solution that would allow Summer Camp to happen this summer. Maine’s phased reopening guidelines prohibit any overnight camp from operating before July 1. After July 1, total group sizes (including campers and staff) must be 50 or less and all individuals traveling into Maine from out of state must quarantine for 14 days. With these restrictions and the need for continued social distancing, healthcare monitoring, and sanitation procedures necessary during a pandemic, it has become clear that we will not be able to host camp sessions as we planned this summer.

Since 1986, campers and staff have gathered to create a community built on belonging, joy, and acceptance of each other. Each summer, we share favorite moments at camp such as when we are trying new activities, supporting each other in rough times and celebrating together during the good times. We share special moments around the campfire, during campouts with our cabin mates, and cheering on each other at the dance show. What fun we have in the dining room eating our favorite meals prepared by our wonderful kitchen staff, and then the birthday cake comes out! We all will miss these moments that we hold onto in our memories and our hearts. Each of us is grieving for the loss of our summer home, the fun we have and the friends we miss.

We, at The Summer Camp, are here for you and excited to bring the spirit of The Summer Camp to each of our 2020 registered campers. Watch your mail, email and social media for updates! We may not be together physically, but we are together in our hearts and will get together using technology. When it becomes safe to do so, we’ll reunite in small groups. ❤
