Thank you for an amazing summer!!Our 2008 summer sessions have come to a close and I want to thank our campers, staff and donors for a wonderful summer. A record number of campers (341) ventured to our site from all areas of the Northeast. For the first time ever, we had to hire a second bus to bring our New York girls to camp during session two! It’s great to know that so many girls are able to enjoy the camaraderie of TSC. I want to send a sincere THANK YOU to each one of my outstanding campers. I look forward to seeing you all next year. Staff, I am so proud to have had the opportunity to work with you all. Thank you for all your hard work. Supporters of TSC, thank you so much for providing this opportunity to those 341 girls who will cherish their summer memories for life. We couldn’t do it with out all of you. Thank you!! Tracy St. Onge-May Welcome to The Summer CampEstablished as a not-for-profit organization in 1986, The Summer Camp provides girls from low-income families and foster homes with a comprehensive, residential camping experience. Some of our campers deal with adult issues and responsibilities on a daily basis. Camp means ten days for a child to get away from their hometown, often from their parents’ divorce, abuse, violence or neglect. Girls, ages 6-16, can forget about “real life” for a while, and just have fun and make friends. At The Summer Camp, the girls are provided with a safe, friendly environment; taught that they are valued as individuals; given positive instruction and counsel; and empowered with greater self-esteem. Our counselors create a wonderful camp culture based on caring and a true sense of community. They teach the girls that a smile, word of encouragement or a helping hand will leave a positive impact on those around them. Summer Campers learn to communicate with their peers and with authority figures. Individually and together, they set goals and recognize their potential to succeed; we strive to help each child discover her talents and learn to share them with the larger community. The skills acquired at The Summer Camp enable girls to believe in themselves and contribute to their making choices that provide them with opportunities for self-advancement. The Board of Directors is committed to financing and developing new programs to meet the changing needs of The Summer Campers. The Summer Camp provides children with a chance to develop social and athletic skills in a secure environment to which they can return each summer. |
