Educational Partners

Below are some of the training programs and activities we offer in partnership with The Summer Camp program:

American Red Cross

In American Red Cross Babysitter Training and First Aid, our young women are being educated about leading healthier, safer lives as well as being trained to serve as mentors and leaders.

Youth Book Club

Youth Book Club

Reading promotes learning, which promotes growth, which promotes prosperity.

This fun book club program promotes the value of reading for the purpose of advancing literacy, and broadening youth’s minds and knowledge through reading and dialogue.

During this program, each girl will choose a book to read, review and discuss in a group with their peers. After The Summer Camp season is over, the campers will be able to continue reading reviews and choosing new books to order and read when they return home through the Youth Book Club. During the year as the girls read their new books, they are encouraged to communicate with their peers through email or other methods of communication to discuss their book and possibly swap with a fellow Leadership camper.

Girls At Work

WOODWORKING:

Through a partnership with the Girls At Work organization of NH, we help our girls build confidence and independence in an open and supportive atmosphere while learning the craft of woodworking. We aspire to make the campers aware of the advantages of a trade skill as a hobby and potential source of income and expose them to a career opportunity they may not have otherwise considered.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension

NUTRITION COURSE:

Curriculum and staff support is supplied by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. They work with our campers to educate them on good nutrition and food safety. The campers learn the importance of good nutrition, healthy eating, and food safety/handling. They will also learn how nutrition/foods can influence their health, growth and healing.

National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center

ALTERNATIVES TO VIOLENCE - CONFLICT RESOLUTION:

A licensed Social Worker teaches our conflict management course. These life long skills are crucial in the success of our young women’s future. There are many challenges and significant peer pressures in the lives of these at risk girls that without the skills taught in this course, they would not be able to make good relationship decisions and make safe choices in dangerous situations.

VOLUNTEERING:

Volunteering

Our leadership and CIT campers volunteer at various organizations. The campers learn about the organization, are trained to do a specific task at the organization, then meet some of the people/animals that the organization supports in the community.
